Wishlist and saved items

Where shoppers save products on your storefront, who is counted, and where you see which products and customers are saved. Guests are not counted, and there are no price drop emails.

A wishlist lets a shopper tap a heart on a product to keep it for later. This page explains what your customers do, what you see in the dashboard, and the limits you should know about.

Where the hearts are on your storefront

A storefront made with npx create-brainerce-store has the wishlist built in:

  • A heart on every product card and next to Add to cart on the product page.
  • A heart with the number of saved items in the header.
  • A /wishlist page that lists the saved products, with an Add all to cart button that skips anything sold out or that needs an option picked first.
  • A link on the customer account page.

A storefront built another way may have no wishlist. The hearts are part of your storefront code, not a setting in the dashboard. A site made by an AI builder or by hand only has them if whoever built it added them, and they need the Brainerce SDK version 3.16.0 or newer. If you do not see a heart on your own product pages, ask the person who built the storefront to add one.

Guests and signed in customers are saved in different places

A guest (someone who is not logged in) can still tap the heart. Their list stays in their own browser, up to 100 items. It never reaches Brainerce, so you cannot see it.

A signed in customer keeps their list on their account, up to 200 items. It follows them to another phone or computer.

When a guest logs in or creates an account, their browser list is added to their account automatically. Nothing is lost.

If a shopper clears their browser data before they log in, a guest list is gone for good. Brainerce never had a copy.

What you see in the dashboard

There is no wishlist page and no new item in the sidebar. The numbers appear in three places you already use:

  • Products: a Saved by column shows how many customers saved each product. Click the number, or use the row action Who saved this, to see each customer's name, email, which variant they saved, and the date.
  • Customers: a Saved items column shows how many products each customer saved.
  • A customer's window: a Saved items card lists the products that customer saved, with a Sold out label on any that are out of stock, so you can see who is waiting on what.

These numbers count signed in customers only. A guest saves in their own browser, so a guest is never counted and never listed. Your real shopper interest is higher than the number you see.

A shopper's own list shows only products that are currently published. If you hide or unpublish a product, it disappears from the list the shopper sees on your storefront and from the number in the header. It stays saved, and it comes back if you publish the product again.

You need the permission to view customers. A team member without it does not see the Saved by column, the Saved items column or the card, because they show customer emails.

Ask the Brainerce assistant or a connected AI assistant

You can get the same numbers by asking, without opening the Products or Customers screens. This works in the Brainerce assistant in your dashboard, and in an AI assistant connected through MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor).

  • "How many people saved each of my products?" gives a saved count on every product in the list.
  • "Who saved the linen shirt?" gives the total and the 20 most recent savers for that one product: name, email, variant and date.
  • "How many items did each customer save?" gives a saved count on every customer in the list.
  • "What did Dana save?" gives the total and the 20 most recent items for that one customer, with whether each one is in stock.

Every answer says that guests are not counted. Only signed in customers appear in any number or list, exactly like the dashboard.

It needs the permission to read customers. In the Brainerce assistant that is the same permission to view customers. For a connected AI assistant it is the customers read permission you granted when you connected it. Without it you still get your products, but no saved counts and no names or emails, and the assistant tells you why.

It is view only. The assistant cannot add to, edit or remove anything on a customer's list, and there is no separate wishlist tool: the saved counts are an option on the normal product and customer lookups.

What the wishlist does not do

  • No wishlist page in the dashboard, and no sidebar item. The counts live in Products and Customers.
  • No setting to turn it on or off. If you do not want hearts, remove them from your storefront.
  • No share link. A shopper cannot send their list to a friend.
  • No price drop emails and no back in stock emails for saved items. Saving a product does not sign the customer up to hear about it. The back in stock waitlist is a separate feature that does not read the wishlist.
  • No wishlist events for webhooks. Nothing is sent to an outside system when a shopper saves a product.
  • No export of a customer's list. You can read it in the customer's window, but you cannot download it.
  • You cannot add to or edit a customer's list. Only the customer changes it.
  • Guests are not counted. Only signed in customers appear in any number.
  • One list per customer. There are no named or several lists.

Why a product shows 0 in Saved by

  1. Your storefront has no hearts. This is the most common reason. See Where the hearts are on your storefront.
  2. Shoppers are saving as guests. Guests are not counted, so a product that only guests saved shows 0 until those shoppers log in.
  3. Your team role cannot view customers. Then the column is not shown at all, rather than showing 0.
